Paper mashe with stitching and lino printed over it with also block printing in the back ground. I used foil in the right hand page to represent windows.

wake up in the city that never sleeps...
More printing... On the left hand page i used lino for the windows of the building but in the background a skyline print with polystyrene. On the right hand side i spray painted the outline then lino printed the windows in. On the printed image i stuck gold stickers to represent the windows.
Lino
Here I have used lino to print. I have carved the same image of the empire state into a piece of lino and printed it to create a pattern.
This is New York.
With the same image of the empire state building I tried to manipulate it in as many ways as I could think of. I used tracing papers, cardboard, thin copper wire, folding paper, cutting different shapes, using foam, stickers and coloured pencils. I also made a pattern out of the same image and repeated it over and over.
experimenting
Carrying on from my masking tape squares i focused more on weaving and produced a few samples with paper, fabric and ribbon. The image of the empire state building was something I wanted to research more into so decided to do so on the right hand side with inks. The first one was with oil pastel over the building with ink over that. the pastel repels the ink. The second one was with the ink down first then bleach on top. The third one down is with ink on the building then bleach stroked down the window block then the fourth picture is bleach on top of the building then ink on top of that. I like the variety of effects that can be achieved with the bleach.
I♥NY
On the left hand page I have gone back to skylines. I edited a picture in photoshop and copied the skyline from it repeatedly onto tracing paper to create a pattern. Behind the tracing paper I made a tiny little I♥NY Tshirt on a washing line. On the right hand page I went back to basics with the squares with a New York skyline behind it. I wanted to experiment with the masking tape and also weaving to recreate the windows of buildings and sky scrapers in New York.
Making marks
Left hand page is more research images of the streets in New York. The right hand page is a page of mark making. I have focused on squares and used lots of different materials. (materials include: acrylic paint, ink, bleach, chalk pastels, oil pastels, pencil, fabric with ink and paints)
New York city beat
On the left hand page i have tried to capture shapes of the skylines in big cities like New York, I have used magazine clippings to do so. The main shapes I have been focusing on are the rectangular shapes and squares. The page is very simple to convey this. The right hand page is a selection of drawings of the empire state building. As part of New York research i decided to focus on the empire state building. as decoration in the background i melted down angeline fibers.
Feels like looking in a magazine.
The first page is a collage like the same before with the images from the same website. The right hand page is a selection of drawings of the empire state building. I have focused on the square shapes and added quick drawings of buildings and some textural detail at the side. I like to use tracing paper to layer images which is what i have done in the center of the page.
Bright lights, Tv screens...
On the left page i have carried no collecting images and tickets from my visit however on the right page decided to collage. All the images which aren't my own were collected from http://www.urban75.org/photos/newyork/ I choose to take them all from here as their photography skills fascinated me. I picked a variety of pictures from the american flags, to the streets of New York as well as photographs taken years ago of the city.
New york, New York...
Here I started collecting images and tickets from my trip to New York in June 2005. On some of the images i have experimented with bleach which has some interesting effects. On the top right page, top photo I have tried scratching and using sandpaper to distort the image.
You can't not notice beauty when it's there...
Starting on the theme of beauty I decided to research into New York. To me this is a beautiful place that I have been once and would love to go back to!
